Description: Five-day peer education training workshop manual that includes daily agendas and detailed activities for each aspect of the agendas developed through the Zambia Partnership on HIV/AIDS in the Workplace.

Female Condom and Dual Protection: Training for Community Based Distributors and Peer Educators. CEDPA, 2003.
Description: Training manual to help community members in the reduction of unintended pregnancies and STIs through behavior change. It is intended as a two-day seminar for those already serving as community workers and contains activities that can be adapted to fit an IPC curriculum.

IPC and Counseling Manual: On HIV and AIDS. FHI Nigeria, 2002.
Description: Thorough and in-depth manual with 8 modules each with varying number of sessions focusing on counseling. It is designed for a 10-day workshop.

Peer Education: Training of Trainers Manual. Y Peer, 2003.
Description: TOT manual that provides information about peer education theory and includes a multi-day training program for the TOT with detailed activities and appendices.

Description: General information is provided about peer education followed by activities for peer educators as part of a training activity

Peer-to-Peer; HIV & AIDS Peer Education Trainers' Guide for IMPACT Implementing Agencies. Family Health International.
Description: A comprehensive guide to training peer educators using behavior change communication. Includes activities that could be widely used by others.

Description: A comprehensive guide to developing and implementing a youth peer education program. There are tips for working with stakeholders in the community, training activities for peer educators, evaluation guidelines and much more.

Life Skills Manual. US Peace Corps, 2001.
Description: Guide for teaching Life Skills. Includes activities for HIV/AIDS, decision-making skills, communication skills, relationship skills, and peer education.

Peer Education and HIV/AIDS: Concepts, Uses, and Challenges. UNAIDS, 1999.
Description: Discusses theory behind peer education, summarizes needs cited by peer education program managers, and provides recommendations to address them.

Peer Education Practical Handbook: Session Plans and Information for 12 Monthly Topics. FHI. August 2003.
Description: Booklet designed to guide peer educators through HIV/AIDS sessions & discussions at the workplace. The guide addresses 12 monthly themes.

Peer Education Training Manual. FHI/Nigeria Impact Project, 2003.
Description: The documents in this folder are all parts of a manual developed by FHI, incorporating ideas from other training manuals to train people in the workplace as peer educators. Developed as a 5 day course, it also includes a peer educator handbook.

Description: This handbook provides tips for starting a peer education club are included with suggestions for small group discussions, lectures, games, case studies and more.

Health Education for Behavior Change: A Work-Book to Improve Skills. Network Learning. 2003.
Description: Workbook for Behavior Change. While it targets Indians, its ideas and stories could be adapted to fit other cultures. Additionally, it provides checklists and role plays in addition to the meetings ideas and discussion topics.

"Safe Crossing: The Stepping Stones Approach to Involving Men in the Prevention of Violence and HIV Transmission." Action AID Briefing. December 2000.
Description: Document sets out an innovative approach to effectively involving men in HIV prevention which relies on the Stepping Stones IPC method.

VCT

Counselor's Quality Assurance Inventory
Description: Tool to assist counselors, observers, and center management to determine the level of counseling competency demonstrated by counselors. Incudes forms intended for use by counseling supervisors, site facilitators, external evaluators and others to conduct quality assurance (QA) in counseling. Also highlights important counseling and facilitation skills.

VCT Training Course (Trainer's Manual). GAP, PSI, CDC, and USAID, 2003.
Description: Detailed manual for the trainer of a VCT course. Although not exclusively focused on IPC, the detail is good advice for trainers of all kinds of projects.

Description: This manual is a collaboration of tips and suggestions for working with sex workers in Europe put together by a network of intervention projects.

Description: Link to the Asia Pacific Network of Sex Workers website. Accessible here is the "Making Sex Work Safe" guide for program managers, field workers, and policy makers. It includes a selection of songs, plays, films, posters, and other helpful media materials.

Injecting Drug Users

Developing HIV-AIDS work with Drug Users: A Guide to Participatory Assessment and Response, 2003.
Description: This guide describes how to design and carry out an assessment on HIV/AIDS and drug use based on a Participatory Assessment and Response (PAR) approach.

Prevention of HIV Transmission Among Drug Users: A Training Manual for Field-Level Activities.
Description: Manual aimed at providing information to trainers about field-level activities for the prevention of HIV transmission through injection drug use. Although developed in Asia, it is not a culturally or regionally specific manual. In total, the sections are designed for a 3-5 day training course.

Training Manual: An Introduction for Promoting Sexual Health for Men Who have Sex with Men and Gay Men. The Naz Foundation India Trust, 2001.
Description: This manual provides training modules on issues related to the sexuality and sexual health of men who have sex with men (MSM) and gay men. While developed in South Asian context, which some changes, it can be adapted for use in other contexts.

Description: A report that focuses on the everyday experiences of migrant and mobile population as they try to access health care and support services. It provides good information on programs in these regions and the obstacles faced by migrant and mobile persons.

HIV/AIDS Intervention in Truck Driver Population in Southern Africa: A Literature Review and BCC Materials. 2004.
Description: Reviews interventions and literature on truck drivers as well as BCC materials targeted towards them.

Labor Migration and HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa, IOM, 2002.
Description: Provides information about migrant populations in Southern Africa that can be used to develop IPC programs for migrant worker with respect to their unique vulnerabilities to HIV/AIDS.

Mobility and HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa: A field study in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique. IOM, SIDA and CARE. 2003.
Description: The study investigates the links between HIV/AIDS and mobility in Southern Africa. It focuses on several highly mobile populations including informal traders, CSWs, migrant laborers, farming communities, mine workers, in- and out-of-school youth, and truck drivers. A good resource for developing IPC programs in this area.

Toolkit for Prevention: Among Mobile Populations in the Greater Mekong Subregion. World Vision Australia and UNDP. 2002.
Description: A toolkit for program managers who are experienced working with HIV. It provides guidelines for working with migrant populations (in the Greater Mekong Subregion) and the communities that are affected by their mobility.

Migrant Populations and HIV/AIDS: The Development and Implementation of Programmes: Theory, Methodology and Practice. UNESCO and UNAIDS, 2000.
Description: This training manual provides overview of migrants and HIV/AIDS, as well as program interventions. It examines methodologies for developing interventions. Israel is used as main case example in the manual.

Uniformed Service Personnel

Peer Education Kit for Uniformed Services: Implementing HIV/AIDS/STI Peer Education for Uniformed Services. UNAIDS, 2003.
Description: This is a manual that can be used to train peer educators as well as peer educators themselves. Activities desensitize sex, assess risk and enhance communication in relationships. It also includes activities for condoms and STIs. It is presented in a general form to allow for adaptation to specific cultural needs.

Uniformed Services HIV/AIDS Peer Leadership Guide. FHI, 2001.
Description: This is a manual that can be used to train peer educators as well as peer educators themselves. It focused on uniformed personnel and can be adapted to fit the needs of other groups. It includes useful resources such as a guide for training peer educators and educational activities.

Uniformed Services Programming Guide: A guide to HIV/AIDS/STI Programming Options for Uniformed Services. UNAIDS. 2003.
Description: Guide for developing programs for uniformed personnel to address HIV/AIDS/STIs. Ideas are presented generally and can be easily adapted to fit the culture and needs of various target populations. The programming spans a wide range of activities from testing for HIV and STIs and condom distribution, to peer educators and policy development.

Description: This document summarizes information gained from various peer education programs. It provides information on what peer educators are; why peer education is important; what research says about it; lessons learned from PE; and guidelines. It draws from experiences in Asia and provides sample lesson plans and activities.

Description: The basic outline and steps for creating and implanting a peer education program focused on youth and their sexual/reproductive health.

Tips for Developing Life Skills Curricula for HIV Prevention Among African Youth: A Synthesis of Emerging Lessons. USAID, Office of Sustainable Development, Bureau for Africa, 2002.
Description: This guide is divided into sections that focus on: issues of sexuality with youth and implementation of HIV with youth. It provides tips for implementing life skills programs, a bibliography of life skills references as well as sample curricula and materials.
